Message from the Principal

On behalf of the school I offer our thanks to Point View families who have played such an important part in helping us keep all our children safe whilst ensuring that they take every opportunity to learn. The many responses to the questions we asked last week revealed a wide variety of experience. We can see that for some families, distance learning was a challenge, especially for those trying to balance demanding work commitments with their family responsibilities. For others, the IT skills of their children and their capacity to engage effectively with learning at home was a revelation. For some the school’s distance learning support was a success, for others not so much. We will learn, but it will never be a substitute for ‘the real thing’. Thank you for your community-minded actions at the start and end of the day. I wish to make it clear that we place a very high value on parental involvement in the school. Good, two-way communication between the school and families is vital. You are most welcome on the school campus, but we ask you to be mindful of learning in and around classrooms and the dynamics of a class of 20 – 30 children, their teacher and their parents and caregivers at those busy times at either end of the day. Many of our children have been at school for quite a short period so far this year. Teachers need time to assess progress and achievement accurately. For these reasons we have rescheduled our reporting timeline for the year. The school calendar reflects the revised reporting schedule. I am pleased to welcome to the Point View Board, two parents as new trustees. Stephan Blumenberg and Andy Yip have both been co-opted by the Board to bring numbers back up to the required level and provide some necessary expertise. The Board is grateful to them both and to other parents who showed an interest in this opportunity but were not co-opted. Robin Kirkham Principal
