REPORTING AND ABSENCE
Making sure all our children arrive safely and on time to school is important to us. All classrooms call the Roll first thing in the morning and again after the lunch break.
HOW TO LET US KNOW WHEN YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT
If your child is going to be absent from school, please help us ensure they are safe by informing the office before 9.00am each day. You can click on this link to send an email or use the school app and phone the absence line 274 0637 and dial 1 to leave a message.
If your child is going to be absence for more than one day please make sure you state the days away clearly. If your child is absent without notification at the 9.00am roll check, the office staff will phone you as soon as possible to ensure their safety. This system relies on us having up-to-date phone numbers. All absences must be covered by a phone call or a note signed by a parent.
Children arriving after 9.00am must be signed at the office by a parent. Parents collecting children for appointments during school hours must sign them out at the office.
STUDENTS TAKING LEAVE DURING TERM TIME
Many families choose to take students out of school during term time for holidays. While overseas holiday experiences can be beneficial for students, the Education Act does require children to attend school each day that it is open for tuition. Principals may allow an absence of no more than five school days.
Process for term time leave notification
FIVE (5) DAYS OR LESS term time leave ONLY please follow the link below to complete this form at least one school week prior to the first day your child will be absent. 5 days or less leave and absence form.
LEAVE OF MORE THAN FIVE (5) DAYS term time leave for a specific purpose such as a family holiday overseas in notification must be submitted in writing to the Principal (please note DO NOT use the link above for this purpose) at least two school weeks in advance of the first day your child will be absent. The Ministry of Education requires the school to record such absences in the attendance system as ‘notified but unjustified’.
It is a Ministry requirement that any child absent from school without written confirmation of a return date must be removed from the school roll after 21 days.
Children’s arrival at school
Children should not arrive at school before 8.00am. Preferred arrival time is between 8.20am and 8.30am. Children arriving before 8.20am must wait directly outside the hall until the 8.20am bell. Punctuality is critical and students should arrive in time to settle in before school begins.
Collection of children after school
Children must be collected by 3.15pm. We do not have supervision in the grounds after 3.00pm. If you are running late after school please inform the office personnel and they will supervise your children till you arrive. Children who are regularly not collected on time will be sent to the After School Care and parents will be charged by the operator for that service. All children who are waiting for parents after school must wait on the administration block steps. All playgrounds are closed from 3.00pm to 3.30pm so that we can easily monitor children in the grounds.
