Absences

To ensure accurate attendance records and the safety of our learners, all absences, including sickness, appointments, lateness, or early finishes, must be reported to the school.

Reporting Absences, Lateness and Early Pick-Ups

Please notify the school using one of the following methods:

HERO App – The quickest and easiest way to report an absence
Phone message – 09 274 0637 (Ext. 1)

Please report absences before 8:45am on the day your child will be away. For longer absences, only one notification is required. Please clearly state the first and last day your child will be absent and the reason for the absence.

If a child is absent and notification has not been received before 9:00am, the school office will phone or send a message as soon as possible to ensure the learner’s safety. This process relies on the school having up-to-date contact details, so please ensure your phone numbers are current.

Absences Due to Travel or Holidays

If your child will be away from school due to travel or a family holiday, please notify the school in advance.

  • Absences of less than 5 school days: Please complete the absence notification form. Click Here

  • Absences of more than 5 school days: Please email the Principal at a.wynyard@pointview.school.nz with the details of the absence.

If your child will be leaving Point View School permanently, please email the school office on admin@pointview.school.nz, so that we can update our records.

My child is unwell

If you are unsure whether your child is well enough to attend school, we encourage families to follow Ministry of Health guidance or seek advice from a health professional. Regular attendance is important, but we also want to ensure that students who are unwell are given time to recover before returning to school.

Late arrivals

Learners arriving late to school must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver to the school office to sign in and collect a late pass for their teacher.

Leaving School During the Day

If a learner needs to leave school during the day for an appointment, parents or caregivers must sign them out at the school office. When the student returns, they must sign back in at the office before returning to class.

Working together helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of all learners at Point View School.

Irregular or Ongoing Absences

If a learner’s attendance falls below 90%, the school will work closely with families to understand any challenges that may be affecting regular attendance. This may involve communication through meetings, phone calls, or emails to discuss how we can support improved attendance and ensure the best outcomes for the learner.

If attendance concerns continue, the school may seek additional support from external attendance services that work alongside families and schools to encourage regular attendance. Our goal is to work in partnership with families so that every learner is at school regularly, engaged in their learning, and able to reach their full potential.
