Regular Attendance
At Point View School, we believe that regular attendance is essential for successful learning. Being at school every day helps learners stay connected to their learning, build positive relationships, and make steady progress in the classroom. Learner attendance is recorded daily and reported to the Ministry of Education.
The Importance of Regular Attendance
The New Zealand Government has set a national attendance target of 90%, which means learners should aim to have no more than five days absent each term. Developing strong attendance habits from an early age helps support learning, confidence, and long-term success.
Why Attendance Matters
Regular attendance plays an important role in supporting learning, wellbeing, and success. When learners attend school consistently, they are better able to build strong routines, maintain friendships, and stay engaged in their learning. Frequent absences can lead to gaps in learning that may be difficult to catch up on and can make it harder for students to stay connected to classroom programmes.
The Role of Families
In New Zealand, it is a legal requirement for all learners enrolled in a registered school to attend whenever the school is open. Families play an important role in supporting good attendance by ensuring their child attends school regularly and arrives ready to learn. Working together helps ensure every learner at Point View School has the best opportunity to succeed.
