International Students

We warmly welcome international students from around the world to Point View School. We provide an excellent opportunity to experience New Zealand education and Kiwi culture in a supportive and inclusive learning environment. We are proud of our school community and enjoy sharing our values, learning programmes, and traditions with learners from different countries.

Cultural diversity

Our school has a rich cultural diversity, with students from many different backgrounds. This diversity is something we celebrate and value, as it enriches our learning community and helps learners develop a global perspective.

Our location

Point View School is located in East Auckland, close to beautiful beaches, parks, and nature reserves. Our location offers families a wonderful lifestyle while being part of a vibrant and welcoming school community.

Code of Practice

Point View School has agreed to observe and be bound by The Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice, published by the Ministry of Education. This framework ensures that our international students are well-informed, safe, and properly cared for.

Copies of the Code are available upon request from the school office or can be accessed via the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) website: www.nzqa.govt.nz.

The New Zealand Education System

Our education system is modern, innovative, and student-centred. We aim to produce leaders and citizens equipped for the 21st century by encouraging students to think critically, question their understandings of the world, and be active participants in their learning.

Year Levels and Phases

Primary schooling in New Zealand is organized into specific learning phases. At Point View School, these are:

  • Phase 1: Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3

  • Phase 2: Year 4, Year 5, and Year 6

Visas and Immigration

Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service and can be viewed on their website: www.immigration.govt.nz.

Note: It is the responsibility of the caregiver or agent to ensure that all documentation is fully completed to enable the child to attend school.

Medical and Travel Insurance

To ensure the safety and well-being of our students, all international students are required to have comprehensive medical and travel insurance for the duration of their stay. Our recommended insurance provider ››

Accomodation and Enrolment Requirements

To best support our young learners in a primary school setting, we have specific requirements for international enrolments:

  • Parental Supervision: We only accept applicants where at least one parent will be living with the student for the entire duration of their stay.

  • Minimum Stay: To ensure the student has enough time to settle into our curriculum and culture, the minimum enrolment period is one full school term.

The Enrolment Contract will be completed once the application for the International Student has been formally approved.
