Our School
Nestled among the beautiful East Coast Bays of Auckland, Point View School is a vibrant contributing primary with around 680 learners aged 5 to 11 years. Since opening in 1997, we have built a strong reputation for high standards, caring and skilled teachers, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
Our Vision
Learning together to develop individual potential, a love of learning and responsible citizenship.
Our Motto
‘Learning Together’
Our Logo
Our logo represents the long-standing and much-loved connection between land and sea that characterises the local area. The district slopes towards the Waitematā Harbour, with its bays, inlets, and horizons forming an important part of the landscape surrounding Point View School.
The logo was developed in 1996 by Peter Smith (OBE, BA, Dip Tchg), Lecturer in Visual Arts at the Auckland College of Education and a member of the Establishment Board of Trustees. It was created in response to the vision shared by the Establishment Board and staff when the school was founded.
The design represents the sea, symbolised through a wave pattern. This pattern reflects both the continuity and movement of water and waves, and the partnership between Māori and Pākehā, as recognised in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and reflected in our local community.
The sea motif is also inspired by Māori rafter patterning. In traditional Māori design, these patterns are not merely decorative but symbolise the continuity of family and tribal lines across generations.
The idea of generation following generation, each learning from those who came before and contributing to those who follow, is a value shared across cultures. This concept reflects the spirit of the Point View School community, where many cultures come together in a shared commitment to learning and growth.
Our School Song
Our school song is a vibrant piece of Point View School history that has been bringing our community together since we first opened our doors in 1997!
Originally composed by Vaughan Thompson in collaboration with our foundation principal, Neil Shroff, the lyrics beautifully captured the essence of our school, from the breathtaking views of the local hills to the symbolic growth of the golden Kōwhai tree. In 2017, as a special collaboration project with Trina Clark, the song was rewritten alongside a group of our talented Senior songwriters. This update ensured that the song continues to resonate with new generations of learners while honouring the foundation laid nearly 30 years ago.
It is much more than just a melody; it is a musical celebration of our core motto, "learning together," encouraging every learner to find their voice and share their unique point of view. For nearly three decades, this anthem has served as a unifying tradition, weaving a golden thread from our very first learners to the happy faces in our classrooms today. We sing it with pride, knowing it represents the flourishing atmosphere and bright future of every learner who walks through our gates!
Our Classrooms
At Point View School, our classrooms are designed to create supportive and effective learning environments for all learners.
Our learning spaces follow a more traditional classroom structure, allowing teachers to provide explicit instruction while supporting individual learning needs. Classrooms are highly organised, visually supportive, and structured to help students focus and feel confident in their learning.
Teachers carefully manage the classroom environment, including noise levels and routines, to ensure calm and engaging learning spaces. Our classes are organised into year levels, enabling teachers to tailor learning programmes that are developmentally appropriate and meet the needs of each stage of learning.

Education Review Office Report
Point View School works in a multi-year partnership with the Education Review Office (ERO) through their ‘Te Ara Huarau’ evaluation approach, which focuses on continuous improvement and learner success. Our latest report highlights how our collaborative "Learning Together" culture and strong professional leadership contribute to high levels of student engagement and achievement. We invite our whānau to read the full evaluation on the ERO website to see how we are performing and the clear goals we have set for our school’s future growth.
The Annual Report
Our Annual Report is a key accountability document that provides our community and the Ministry of Education with a transparent look at our school's performance each year.
It features our annual financial statements, detailing how the Board has applied its resources to achieve our strategic goals and support learners learning. The report also includes an "analysis of variance," which compares our planned targets and priorities against what we actually achieved during the school year. Most importantly, it serves as a vital tool for reporting to you, our parents and wider whānau, on our progress and commitment to excellence at Point View School.
