Information Communication Technology (ICT)

At Point View School, we view technology as a tool to support and enhance learning. Digital devices are used when they add value to learning experiences and help students explore, create, collaborate, and share their ideas.

Years 1–3

In the junior years, technology is used in a limited and purposeful way. Our focus at this stage is on developing strong foundational skills through hands-on learning, collaboration, creativity, and rich classroom experiences. Digital tools may be used to support learning where appropriate.

Years 4–6

At our school, learners learn about digital technologies as part of the New Zealand Curriculum. They learn how technology works and how to use it to create and solve problems. Learners develop skills such as:

  • Computational thinking – breaking problems into simple steps

  • Creating digital content – making presentations, animations, or simple programs

  • Problem solving – testing ideas and improving their work

  • Digital citizenship – using technology safely and responsibly online

  • Collaboration – sharing ideas and working with others using digital tools.

Through these experiences, learners become confident and creative users of technology who are prepared for the digital world. Point View encourages a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) approach for students in Years 4–6. Devices are registered on the school network to ensure safe and appropriate use. The school also provides a small number of shared devices and iPads for learners to use when needed.

Google Accounts and Online Learning

Each learner is provided with a school-managed Google account to support learning through platforms such as Google Classroom. These accounts are monitored and managed through N4L (Network for Learning) to ensure safe and appropriate online use.

Cyber Safety

Online safety is an important part of learning at Point View School. At the beginning of each year, learners participate in a Cyber Safety programme where they learn about responsible and safe use of technology. Learners and families also sign an e-Learning Agreement to support positive digital citizenship.
