Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
This is where learners can bring their own device to school to support their learning. We are asking all families of learners in Years 5 and 6 to seriously consider learners bringing their own device to school daily.
Why BYOD?
At Point View School we are focussed on equipping our learners to become responsible citizens in an ever changing world. We want them to be able to collect, synthesise and analyse information and then work collaboratively with others to apply that knowledge. Learners need to be lifelong learners who can adapt and respond to changes in the world. Bring Your Own Device allows students to have one-to-one time on a device that is set up to support their learning. This has many benefits, including:
enabling learners to take increasing responsibility and ownership for their own learning
develops critical thinking skills, as learners reflect on their learning needs and opportunities when selecting the right tool for them
teaches learners how to discern what tool will best help with their learning
prepares learners for a future of lifelong learning with a continual increase in technology awareness and digital citizenship
Devices at school are used to support learning across the curriculum including literacy and mathematics programmes, the inquiry learning process and the Digital Technologies curriculum. The devices also allow for catering for individualised learning needs.
Does my student have to bring their own device?
Learners who do not bring a device will have shared access to school devices.

Requirements
Wireless
Battery Life: Should last 5-6 hours to be able to get through a school day without recharging.
RAM: For Chromebook this should be 4GB. For other devices it should be 8GB or more; more is better and will increase the useful life of the device.
Weight: Should be light enough for your child to carry to and from school.
Insurance: While we take care to protect learner property, we cannot accept responsibility for devices lost or stolen, so make sure it is covered for these possibilities. We recommend you check that your household contents insurance policy covers accidental damage to a student device at school.
