Water Wise Programme
Our Year 6 learners have the incredible opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom and onto the water at Howick Beach. The Waterwise programme, which runs during Term 1 and Term 4 each year, is a highlight of the senior school experience.
Waterwise: Building Confidence on the Coast
Under the guidance of trained instructors and volunteers, learners dive into a variety of aquatic skills, including:
Sailing: Learning the basics of wind direction and boat handling.
Kayaking: Developing strength, coordination, and water safety.
Water Safety: Building essential knowledge for life in a coastal community.
Beyond the technical skills, Waterwise is about building confidence. For many learners, this is their first time "at the helm," providing a unique environment to overcome challenges and try something completely new. It is also a fantastic time for our Year 6 cohort to develop social skills, as they work in teams, communicate in a different setting, and support one another through new experiences.
Community and Family Involvement
This programme relies on the wonderful support of our school community. It is a great opportunity for families to get involved by helping transport learners to the beach and providing supervision on the day. Your involvement not only makes the programme possible but allows you to share in these exciting milestones with the learners.
